Description

This galaxy is located 40 million light years away in the constellation of Lynx at a declination of +49 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 6 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 70,000 light years.

This galaxy is unusual – it has an odd arm structure, numerous blue star clouds and a strong purple color.  It raises more questions than answers:

-       Is that a short bar at the galaxy center?
-       Why are they so many bright blue star clouds and why do so many of them align?
-       Is this galaxy disturbed and if so, by what?
-       Where are the dust lanes?

This galaxy reminds me of a number of the SBm Magellanic Galaxies but it is larger and the strong purplish color here is unique.
